Tab Wrangling

If you’re anything like me, you have a LOT of web browser tabs open at any given time. I currently have 16 tabs open, including OneTab with another five tabs in that list. The Zapier blog is an excellent resource for productivity tips; the November 8 post by Melanie Pinola provides some really great tips and tools for managing too many browser tabs.

One of the tips she mentions that I use often is keeping tabs related to each project open in a separate window. In my case, I use Google Chrome for web browsing, and I have separate logins for personal use and professional use, so I tend to have at least two windows open. I keep my personal email and social media accounts open in my “personal” Chrome window, and I keep the websites I use for my day job, like Hootsuite, Podio, and Google Drive, open in the “professional” Chrome window.

Melanie also writes about practicing tab mindfulness; I also try to look at my tabs a couple times a day and close out any I’m not going to be using for a while. If I know that I will eventually want to navigate back to the contents of a tab, I bookmark it or use Pocket to save posts, articles, or videos that I want to view later. Pocket is an excellent tool for keeping all of those things in one place.

I really enjoy the Zapier blog, and I recommend following them if you like posts about productivity as much as I do.

Also, you can follow Melanie Pinola on twitter: @melaniepinola.  I just started following her, and I look forward to seeing her future posts.
